Abdullah was honored as one of the top 50 horses of the century by "The Chronicle of The Horse". The gray Trakehner stallion will best be remembered for his 1984 Olympic performance in show jumping with his rider Conrad Homfeld. Their brilliant clear round in the Team Competition clinched the first team gold medal for the United States. They went on to win the Olympic silver medal in the individual competition.
Abdullah and Conrad continued to re-write the record book by winning the 1985 World Cup in Berlin and at the age of 15 yrs they again won a first Team Gold medal at the 1986 World Championships, Aachen, where Abdullah was the World Champion horse of the competition.
During his long career he won Grand Prix competitions with Joe Fargis and Debbie Stephens as well as Conrad Homfeld. Abdullah was one of the first warmblood jumper stallions and with his many victories he was in great demand as a sire of performance horses. He is approved as a breed stallion by virtually every warmblooded registry. In the U.S. he has produced IHF and IJF Champions as well as seven USEF Horses of The Year. In 1999, his son Abracadabra was USEF Jr. Jumper of The Year.
A very successfull program using frozen semen thru Select Breeders Service has allowed Abdullah to be bred to some of the best mares in Europe. As a result of this international program the stallion Airborne Monticello by Abdullah was named to France's 1996 Olympic Show Jumping Team and was a member of their 1998 World Championship Silver Medal Team. Abdullah has approved breeding stallions in Austria, France, Germany, and Italy. Breedings to Abdullah will continue to be available in the U.S. and internationally through the program at SBS, the leader in frozen semen technology.
